Do I need a Food Manager Certification?

Virginia law requires at least one person with supervisory and management responsibilities in a food establishment to hold a CFPM certification. In certain jurisdictions, it is required that there be a CFPM on the premises at all times during operating hours. It is recommended that each facility have multiple CFPM’s on staff. The certification must be from a program accredited by the ANSI-National Accreditation Board (ANAB).

Do I have to be a manager to get CFPM Certification?

No, you don't necessarily need to be a manager to get CFPM (Certified Food Protection Manager) certification. While it's often required for managers in food establishments, anyone can pursue the certification. The CFPM certification demonstrates knowledge of food safety practices and is often a requirement for the "person-in-charge" in food service operations.

If I am getting recertified, do I need to take the course again?

No. If your certification is in need of renewal, you do not need to take the course again, just the exam (Except for Chesapeake, VA)

Is there benefit to having an Active Managerial Control Review?

Yes, there are significant benefits to implementing an active managerial control (AMC) review in food service establishments. AMC is a proactive approach to food safety that focuses on preventing foodborne illnesses rather than reacting to situations or violations. By actively managing food safety risks, businesses can improve their reputation, reduce the risk of outbreaks, and ensure a safer environment for customers.
